Summary: Sets up and operates a variety of machine shop machines such as cut-off saw, band saw, drill press, milling machine, and lathes to perform progressive machining operations with close tolerances. Interprets and reads blue prints and sketches and follows verbal instructions. Uses a combination of jigs, fixtures and assemblies to perform machine operations. Fits and assembles as necessary. Sets up and operates CNC machining center, performing minor programming changes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
Oversees setup, maintenance, and machining of molds and associated parts to meet specifications utilizing manual mills, vertical CNC, drill press, bench grinder and band saw.
Completes extensive bench work that requires the use of a variety of hand tools such as grinders, drills and wrenches.
May perform set-up of new or experimental tooling from general directions furnished by supervisor or engineering.
Reads blueprints, sketches or machine parts to determine fix type and dimensions of stock or other equipment required for equipment build or repair.
Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on stock surfaces.
Ensures work is clean and complete to specifications.
Works with machine measuring tools such as height gage, micrometer, calipers, dial indicators, etc.
Adheres to safety policies and practices. Maintains clean and orderly work area.
Performs all other duties as assigned or needed.
Education /
Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent work experience.
Technical, formal machinist training or trade school education with some advanced education in basic design, and mechanical strengths is a plus.
MasterCam knowledge is a plus.
Knowledge of CNC equipment set up and operation is required. The ability to program is a plus.
